Daniel Lee Brings Burberry Back to Its Iconic Identity

It took Daniel Lee two years to create a collection that truly captures the essence of Burberry.

Taking over the artistic direction of a house with such heritage and a strong identity is a far more complex challenge than for most other brands.

Recognized for his talent and creative vision, Daniel Lee initially seemed to be finding his footing. But since the end of November, Burberry has made a decisive turn. The brand has reconnected with its DNA through striking campaigns and effective storytelling on social media. Trench coats, British humor, charismatic ambassadors, rain, sheep, iconic check patterns, and steaming tea: the entire Burberry universe is back, modernized yet true to its roots.

Autumn/Winter 2025 Show Marks a Turning Point

Burberry unveiled its Autumn/Winter 2025 collection at Tate Britain, transformed for the occasion into an intimate and elegant space. Guests walked through draped fabrics to discover a long runway leading to plush sofas, both quirky and sophisticated. The casting was impressive, bringing together a diverse range of personalities that embodied the cultural richness of Britain, each wearing Burberry in their own way. This is the timeless charm of the house: a brand that is accessible, rooted in history, but never stagnant, capable of dressing both Lauryn Hill and Queen Elizabeth II (who had granted it her Royal Warrant as Weatherproofer).

A seductive and bold collection

The show opened with a strong silhouette: high-waisted jodhpurs, a thick cropped jacket, and an XXL scarf wrapped around the neck. A structured look at the shoulders and waist, yet still sensual.

The winter color palette combined deep browns, plum, beige, with touches of white and gold. Outerwear was at the heart of the collection, blending countryside inspirations with British elegance, and a hint of Italian chic in the fluidity and refinement of the accessories.

But above all, for the first time in a long while, Burberry was setting trends. Where previous shows left a vague impression, this season stands out with strong pieces: cropped and voluminous jackets, fine and airy trench coats, which are set to become the must-haves for the upcoming months.

The only downside? The brand has yet to unveil the iconic bag that will send everyone running to the store.

A victory for Daniel Lee and Burberry

With this collection, Daniel Lee has reached a decisive milestone. His Burberry asserts itself, staying true to its DNA while being resolutely modern. And deep down, we all have a bit of Burberry in us: in our memories, our wardrobes, or simply in this fascination for a brand that spans eras without ever losing its soul.
